Mardi Gras mask fundraiser
The countdown to Mardi Gras officially kicks off one week before Fat Tuesday when downtown Baton Rouge's Glassell Gallery hosts the Mardi Gras Mask Sale & Fundraiser. The event, taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 9, will give everyone their chance to purchase a one-of-a-kind mask by some of our area's best known artists. Among those participating in this year's event are Elise Toups, Jonathan Pellitteri, Meg Holford and Therese Knowles.

The masks designed by these artists (and many others) will be on display throughout the day on Tuesday with each going to the highest bidder during a silent auction that evening (6-8 p.m.). The event is free and open to the public and will also offer up some King Cake for everyone to enjoy.

The Wedding Singer' comes to BR
Sure, Adam Sandler's flick - with Drew Barrymore and countless Eighties references - has become something of a cult classic, but don't overlook the musical stage version of the 1998 film. I know what you're thinking: "Musical?" But, before you write it off, consider that when the play debuted on Broadway, it had Stephen Lynch filling Sandler's shoes.

Now, if you don't know who that is, then I've made a pointless reference which tells you nothing about the play. Meanwhile, if you do know who Stephen Lynch is, then you might be thinking about the hilarity of "Dead Puppies" and reconsidering a trip to the Baton Rouge River Center on Wednesday, Feb. 3 to catch the comical tale of love in the era of mullets and spandex.

Tickets will run you $29-49. Visit brrivercenter.com for more details.

Saints Super Bowl programs in BR
So you can't make it to Miami for the big game on Sunday; you're not the only one. Everyone will be glued to their flat panels in black and gold on this weekend to see the Saints (hopefully) wipe that smug I'm-aware-of-just-how-damn-good-I-am look off Peyton's face.

But let's say you want something official to remember this momentous occasion with; like, say, a Super Bowl program. Well, you're in luck. Both The Station and JL's Place will be selling Super Bowl programs leading up to the event.

To find out more, call (225) 926-0631 (The Station) or call (225) 765-7557 (JL's Place). Go Saints!
