Fleur de Tease shows off in Baton Rouge

[Comment Below]

By Ryan Sands

Lions and tigers and boobies, oh my! Yes Baton Rouge, it is time once again to witness the burlesque spectacle that is Fleur de Tease. While you may have heard that this show "bares all," it definitely is not that cut and dry, and the show offers far more than scantily clad women. Think of it as a variety show. A very, VERY sexy variety show.

In 2006, Trixie Minx, head choreographer, dancer and founder of the group approached the dancers now known as Madame Mystere and Natasha Fiore about joining her in creating a burlesque troupe. Mystere had a formal background in dance, while Fiore's background came strictly from dancing burlesque. Minx describes Fiore as, "a very dynamic performer who also eats fire and twirls batons and does just about everything." And it's exactly that caliber of entertainment which separates Fleur de Tease from your average Friday night at the strip club.

Minx is very careful to note that, "those first shows were a little bumpy, but as we did it more often, more people began to attend."

This is definitely the kind of show New Orleans is known for, both titillating and interactive. "The whole point of the show is to create interaction between the performers on stage and the audience," Minx added.

This particular show (at The Spanish Moon on Saturday, Feb. 6) will be Fleur de Tease's Valentine's Day show and all of the sketches will revolve around love, romance and lust. Trixie made sure to mention a new act which she is very excited for the people of Baton Rouge to see: "Three girls, two fans." That's right, three girls will dance at the same time, while wearing very minimal clothing, all while fluidly moving between only two fans!

When asked about what a Baton Rouge audience needs to understand about the show, Minx said, "people often misunderstand the point of burlesque. It's not just about girls dancing, the shows feature an array of acts. The sketches and choreographed acts are very tongue-in-cheek. We want people to have a good time, because that's what it's about."

While the show isn't aimed at either men or women, Minx does admit that it isn't a show for your children.

On a final note, Minx said, "if anyone has any preconceived notions about burlesque, let us challenge them." So, come Saturday night, if you're at a loss on what to do in the capital city, go check out one of New Orleans' favorite shows: Fleur de Tease.

Fleur de Tease will be performing at The Spanish Moon, February 6. For more information, check out fleurdetease.com.
