Of Moving Colors celebrating 20 years of dance
By Lynsey Brown
The upcoming show, “Luminescence,” is the 20th anniversary celebration for Of Moving Colors Productions – a Baton Rouge contemporary dance company. It will be held at the Manship Theatre, with daily performances from March 28-30. This will be a collection of highlights of the past 20 years of performances, as well as newly choreographed pieces.
More upcoming events include Intimateworks on May 3 at the Baird Gallery, which is a collection of mostly solos and duets in a setting that has seating available for up to 20 people only. Tickets are $25, and the money raised will go toward a summer workshop for the dancers. Since it is choreographed by the dancers in the show, they surely will exude a true connection to the performance.
Of Moving Colors Productions not only produces high quality performances but works to increase the access to this type of art to the public.
“Our shows are usually along a color theme,” said Carrie Cliburn, dancer and Associate Director of Grants and Communications for Of Moving Colors. “Green with Baton Rouge. Green and sienna with Earth Day. Most of our collaborations are with our outreach programs.”
The program “CLOSER to the arts” (Churches, Libraries, Open-air spaces, Schools, and Everywhere we can Reach) offers performances, workshops and classes for the public.
Cliburn stated that contemporary dance is not easy to find in Baton Rouge for someone looking to learn, so classes are offered to the open public for dancers interested in modern dance training.
“Open company classes are for the company members, but any dancer in the community is welcome,” said Cliburn.
Intermediate or advanced training is suggested.
