Girl Scouts judge GS cookie-inspired desserts
By Kelley Cox
Girl Scout cookies: Those three mouth-watering words can elicit saliva from nearly anyone.
A lucky troop of local Girl Scouts – Audubon Council, Inc. – were invited to taste test Girl Scout cookie-inspired desserts whipped up by students at the Louisiana Culinary Institute on March 19.
The Girl Scouts and four adult judges (including myself and Stephen Phillips) rated each of the seven original desserts on creativity, presentation and taste. Three winners were announced: Lauryn Leger (first place), Raymond McGregor (second place) and Heidi Owens (third place).
“Bragging rights. That’s what we all work for,” said Owens of the privileges that accompany a win.
Owens’ recipe used the Do-Si-Do cookie to create a peanut butter and jelly cheesecake with a Do-Si-Do crust.
McGregor’s recipe was for a Thin Mint no bake cheesecake dessert.
Leger’s first place recipe was for a Peanut Butter, Banana and Chocolate Girl Scout Pie, using the Trefoil Girl Scout cookie.
