Sorority Spotlight: Chi Omega
By Aimee Pitre
Chi Omega prides itself as a successful sorority that binds over 240,000 women nationally.
Chi Omega at LSU, the Phi Gamma chapter, was first established in 1924. Since that year, the young women of Chi Omega have excelled in all aspects of sorority life, including; academics, leadership and philanthropy.
Besides working to better the world, the members of the Phi Gamma Chi Omega chapter at LSU participate and host many social events that have been traditionally carried on by generations and generations of women. Owl pal parties, big sis/lil sis, grubs, crush parties, the White Carnation Formal and exchanges are only a portion of the activities these girls are involved in to relax and kick back from their usual hard work and studying.
And man, are those Chi Omega women studying.
With an outstanding overall GPA of 3.2, this sorority is definitely one to notice. In addition, many of the Chi Omega members here at LSU play a major part in countless LSU’s honorary societies like Omicron Delta Kappa, Rho Lambda and Mortar Board. Also, the Phi Gamma chapter of Chi Omega at LSU has been awarded the Highest Sorority GPA in the past.
But that is not all.
The Chi Omega women at LSU participate in the Greek Board of Directors’ Greek Week, Homecoming, and Songfest activities, along with the entire community of sorority women and fraternity men. In addition, Chi Omega women are members of a wide variety of LSU campus organizations. These include; LSU Ambassadors, Student Government, LSU Student Alumni Association and Tiger Athletic Foundation, to name a few.
The women of Chi Omega also strive to maintain a high achievement of service within the community. By volunteering with Baton Rouge Green, Art of the Season and Ocean Commotion, Chi Omega promotes service opportunities among its members.
Annually, Chi Omega hosts a tennis tournament, the Chi-O Open, which has had several, successful runs. This philanthropic event alone raised over eight thousand dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation this past year. Since 2001, Chi Omega at LSU has donated over $100,000 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, granting six special wishes for young children in the Baton Rouge area.
Chi Omega continues to uphold true to its successful reputation here at LSU. It is no doubt we can all expect great things to come in the near future from all Chi Omega women.
