REVO Baton Rouge isn’t waiting for the world to change

[1 Comment(s)]

By Madeline Brown

Even in the small corners of Baton Rouge there are those fighting for change. REVO is described by their MySpace page as “a movement that is redefining America’s perception of love … It means thinking beyond ourselves and redefining our modern conception of necessity.”

It began in Hilo, Hawaii and has jumped the water to mainland U.S. and now into Louisiana. Different chapters across the U.S. put on different fundraisers, mostly connected with Africa.

Upcoming events for REVO in Baton Rouge is the Art Show benefit for the Grace of God Orphanage May 10 at the Ephemeral Gallery located North 19th and Main Street beginning at 8 p.m.

Artists featured will be Clark Derbes, TJ Black, Elise Toups and many more. A $5 donation is being suggested as all proceeds benefit the orphanage. Artists selling their works will be donating a portion of their proceeds as well. Music will be provided by Blacks Sound Parade, Apple Butter and Dj’s Otto & The Real Steven.

Matt Bruce began REVO Baton Rouge after spending a couple of semesters in Hawaii, where REVO was born. After spending four years at LSU he has seen many short lived charity organizations.

“A few groups come and go and it never seems to last and I felt that it was the right time to start REVO and it was, because so many people have contacted us wanting to be involved,” Bruce said.

But it’s not just the money that leaves the lasting impression on the world. Bruce, having been a part of a benefit that raised over $6,000 for an orphanage, said that he saw people not only give money but become “inspired to pick up a cause, even if was their own.”

  1. WTF is REVO?

You managed to write an entire article without once telling anyone what you were talking about. Congrats.
