I don’t know how I found this site; I don’t know why I looked at it. However, it’s quite entertaining so prepare to laugh your ass off.

I found a message board (http://p206.ezboard.com/bsanguinarius) created for vampires – there are people who actually believe they are blood-drinking vampires. There are over a thousand members, and the board is fairly active. Don’t worry; they only drink blood from the willing.

There are forum categories devoted to teen vampires who have just had their “awakening.” Apparently, you don’t know you’re a vampire until you’re older, so who knows who could end up being one? They lurk among us. No, this is not a fantasy role-playing site; these people are even more pathetic than that.

Don’t believe me? Here’s a snippet of discourse from the forum:

Lonely emo #1: “You cannot and will not be turned by drinking another vampire’s blood. The only way to be turned is to drink the blood of a master vampire. And the chances of that happening are slim to none, as there are only around 20 masters in the world.”

Lonely emo #2: “As it so happens, my husband is a master vampire.”

Yes, and I am a super level 35 master vampire with the extra power-up and healing spell. Let’s all meet up at Starbucks and talk about how the world judges us.

According to the site, some of us could be vampires and we don’t even realize it. If you aren’t sure whether you’re a vampire, the forum lists a few ‘symptoms’ to notice: an insatiable thirst (for blood, of course), chronic headache, muscle pains and spasms, insomnia, emotional distress, paranoia and general mental instability. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention the tendency to explode when your skin touches sunlight.

You know, some of those above symptoms sound like a pretty serious condition, and they might be mistaking lead poisoning for vampirism. This is total hogwash in my opinion. Real vampires fly, turn into bats and wear goth-like flowing capes. And most real vampires are actually older than 16.

Hehe, I just came across this site and what a pisser! I have had a great night’s entertainment. Some excellent comic relief from both ’vamps’ and non-vamps. I love vamps in the movies (Blade in particular is a major fav) - but this is ridiculous ....entertaining, but ridiculous - and even more ridiculous are your vamp names! Just shake what your momma gave you and get on with it, will ya?

Hilarious even more, is the "*Offensive comments will be deleted" caption below! Offensive to whom?

I came across this discussion board while doing research. I teach a course at a university in the states. The course is "PHIL 3000: How to Think About Weird Things".

First, I am in general bothered by those who do not take the proper time to weigh the evidence for and against a claim. It is especially puzzling when the claim is of great import. It seems to me that determining whether one is a vampire is of at least as much import as determining whether one is a human being. Notice, most beliefs entail other beliefs. For example, if A believes that s/he is a human being and A believes that humans are entirely mortal, then A believes that s/he will eventually cease to exist. Suppose A does believe that s/he is a human being and A believes that humans are entirely mortal and A desires to stay alive as long as s/he can. It seems that A will take care to avoid potentially fatal phenomena. Likewise, particular beliefs follow for those who believe themselves to be vampires. Some have deduced and/or inferred that her/his vampiric nature makes her/him morally non-culpable (see Rodrick Justin Ferrell). Perhaps Ferrell deduced and/or inferred incorrectly. Still his miscalculation does not show that a belief that one is a vampire will not lead one to further beliefs; possibly beliefs that are very dangerous. So, Miramar, it does effect me. I am concerned when I read that people are holding beliefs on very tenuous grounds--especially beliefs that could lead to potentially dangerous further beliefs.

Two, I am quite disappointed that the self-proclaimed vampires are unable to agree on an analysis of what it is to be a vampire. Some claim that they accept the name ’vampire’ because they are at a loss to find a better name that describes their case. Others claim that they accept the name ’vampire’ because they have a disease that entitles them to the name. Technically, one could argue that from a Kripkean philosophy of language perspective, the referent ’vampire’ picks out a particular type of thing--namely, roughly, things that are supernatural. This simply follows from the fact that those who first coined the term were referring to a supernatural entity (see Kripke’s ’Naming and Necessity’). In that sense, then, one claiming to be a ’vampire’ while maintaining that s/he is not supernatural is simply mistaken (see Putnam’s ’The Meaning of Meaning’). Now, I understand that some of those claiming to be vampires are having trouble determining which name best picks out who they are. However, in the strict sense, it seems that if x is not supernatural, then x is not a vampire. Thus, it seems that those claiming to be vampires should sit down and figure out a name that picks out what you are, and then figure out an analysis of what they are--something like, X is a V if and only if (1) X is sensitive to sharp light, and (2) X is............. Then we and you could determine who is a V and who is not. Until a proper name and analysis is given, we are at a loss to really analyze your claims to be vampires. So, as it stands, those claiming that ’vampires do not exist’ appear to be on much better footing than those who claim that they themselves are vampires. Notice, those claiming that ’vampires do not exist’ are willing to accept that the rest of you could have a strange and rare disease. However, they stand firm--having that rare and strange disease does not make one a vampire, it makes one a human being with a rare and strange disease. Lacking a proper analysis of X, or even a good Wittgensteinian family-resemblance notion going of the concept X, while claiming to be an X should strike us all as wrongheaded.

Third, I find the use of the words ’retard’ and ’fags’ quite inappropriate. Surely, one can find better terms for debasing those s/he despises.

Fourth, I found the discussion amusing...and though ’retard’ and the like are a cringe words, the term ’fucktard’ never ceases to make me laugh.

Finally, I have a hard time understanding why it is an expression of free speech to espouse your beliefs about who you are, but it is not an expression of free speech to tell someone or some group that you think their beliefs are of ’fucktard’ status. Perhaps it is not the most eloquent expression, but surely not all free speech must be eloquent. If you think someone is a fucktard, are you barred from telling them what you think? You might have to be prepared to be hit or told off as well, but surely you are free to tell them what you think. Take a trip to the Tate Modern or some other modern/postmodern art stop, for examples of guised ’fucktards’ being tossed at individuals’ beliefs (for e.g. see Ferrari’s ’Buenos Aires’, Cavallaro “Sweet Jesus,” ect.)

So, if you read the first link then someone else, apart from me must be laughing at the small issue of the blood sucking creatures of the past were actually demons and spirits, that terrified people who honestly believed if you had sex outside of marriage you WERE going to hell...and NOT the vamp you are today which was an intentional fictional work created and manifested in Europe until we got bored with it.. and now its found a new home... in Sunnydale.

Those of you who don’t call yourselves Psi-Vampires, who don’t think they can kill or harm across great distances, who honestly believe they feel better by ingesting blood... let me just add.

Some people get sick very easily after swallowing only a small amount, others take more. However it is a fact that the human digestive system does not like blood. It is very irritating to the mucosal lining of the digestive tract. I would recommend NOT drinking any blood if possible.

It does not transfer energy, it is not meant to be shared. Drink your own (as in lap at a cut) if you feel the need.

Some people are addicted to smoking, others oral sex and yet others jumping off of cliffs they just spent the day climbing. Of the above I gave up one, enjoy the other and can’t understand why people climb shit never mind jump off it.. we all have our ways, and means to get through the day.

I think the main problems expressed above are people who believe they are the fictional Vampire, and those with a habit using an incorrect title.

Lets call it.. awibble for now and see if the argument changes.

Any threats above are in my opinion born of frustration...especially the one about.. ’I do not wish to harm anyone, but I know what I am able to do if I must.

Man, I was locked up for awhile in the UK in a pretty bad place and counted amongst my friends there the only one not in for murder.. you don’t have to be a Vampire to be a threat to someone...I’m more concerned with the people on smack stabbing each other than by someone who believe they can harm me because they believe fiction is real.

Well, I guess having "negative" opinions is completely inconcievable to these folks claiming to be REAL vampires. Not that I know this Stephen Phillips guy, but this article did earn a few chuckles out of me. People on here need to stop whining about it like a child about the representation of the site.
There are no such things as vampires, you can drink all the blood you want or suck all the "energy" out of people as you’d like but it doesn’t make you any less human than the rest of us. If you think you’re a vampire you’re either in serious denial or in need of clinical help.

Stephen, or whatever your name is- and to the non-believers- you people are misinformed. When you think of the word "vampire" the first thing that comes to your mind is a being that goes into the sunlight and bursts into flames, or turns into ashes. Your image of a vampires a person who drinks the blood of the innocent, your image of a vampire is ridiculous. First of all, as most of the others have said on this site, we do not combust in the sunlight. We just get sun burned (like the rest of YOU PEOPLE) a little easier than most. We only drink and very small amount of blood(from the WILLING) because it is the best way to recieve energy because we are just regular people with an energy deficiency. Whatever person you are getting your information from or whether you come up with it from top of your head, you are wrong. 100% incorrect. As someone said the lies and confusion on the subject of us are from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. And besides the only reason why the term "Vampires" is used in the first place is because that is what stuck. We are not immortal. Mankind does not know for sure the existence of every creature in our universe, or even in our world. How could we possibly? New discoveries are made each day. It is no less likely that vampires exist among us than it is that there could be life on other planets.

We deny the existence of vampires out of fear, out of mockery. There have been tales of vampires for centuries in religious tales and campfire stories. Long before Bram Stoker was born and romanticized the legend. There is no other "myth" that has more proof in the world to back it up, but still we deny the facts that have been shoved in our faces. We do so out of fear.

As the philosopher Rousseau once said, "If there is in this world a well-attested account, it is that of the vampire. Nothing is lacking: official reports, affidavits of well-known people, of surgeons, of priests, of magistrates; the judicial proof is most complete. And with all that, who is there that believes in vampires?"

Until we can accept the possibility that the human race is not almighty nor all-knowing, we will not be able to open our minds to the existence of creatures right under our haughty, stuck up noses.

That and you kind of came off as a chauvinist jerk when you wrote this.

There are numerous reasons why we get offended and outraged by what the mundane say. One of these reasons: You have the freedom of speech but you take it entirely too far. You spout off about us being lunatics needing to be put into an insane asylum or something.
Secondly, for those who believe and are entirely to religious the first you do is say "Kill them!" and you take out your stakes (which by the way is absured. We’re not immortal. We die just like everyone else) and try to drive them through someones chest and you call us trash and demons (which i mean HELLOOO that term ’demon’ is referring to an inhuman entity!! therefore you believe in something other than normality!) and say that we should all die. Correct?
Now, tell me. Let’s just say that we posted something on a website stating that non believers should all be hanged, burned, and fed to a man eating shark and slowly die a painful death? Ugh, this has been such a strange night. I got into reading about the subculture of people who call themselves vampires a few years back and was reminded of it today thanks to reading Anne Rice novels. I’m a skeptic when it comes to most things and this all reminds me of religion, which so far I haven’t found one worth believing in. If there is any solid evidence then many people will start believing you and you can stop using fear to try and convince them.

While there could be a real medical condition here, so far what I’m seeing is just that the mind can be a powerful thing (I was once friends with a guy who truly believed he was a dragon/was in a previous life and it changed his eating, personality, and he even started seeing things and believe his teeth to be changing). These people have always felt like outsiders and some just don’t like the thought of being a regular boring human. I think the really sad thing here is that they might be missing out on how truly wonderful the world (and universe) is on its own, without the supernatural or even a higher power. When you really think about it even us regular boring humans are pretty damn amazing.

Yikes, I’m writing a lot more than I thought I would! Well, before I go I’d just like to say what someone else mentioned way up there in the comments (I can’t believe I read most of it, how pathetic am I? haha). Free speech isn’t always pretty. You can call yourself a vampire/werewolf/whatever and I or anyone else can write a stupid (and badly researched) article calling that idea absurd, especially when you show no evidence for your beliefs. After doing some more research I think I should add (why am I caring about commenting on some old article I accidentally stumbled upon? ugh!) that some of my thoughts probably don’t apply for all the "vampires". Or at least I said it the wrong way before.

I think these people truly feel what they feel and that in many cases are just regular people if you take out the vampire beliefs. After reading more I’ve come to the hypothesis that while what they feel is true to them, it is probably a mixture of real medical conditions and making conclusions or connecting dots that shouldn’t necessarily be connected, there is probably a bunch of psychological stuff thrown in as well. My hypothesis is pretty general, but I’m sure others have looking into more than I and have come up with better.

Basically, while what is happening is true to them, that doesn’t mean that they are really seeing things as they are. If I were in their place I’d look at how so many people who fall under the category of "vampires" have different experiences, different definitions of the word. Since I haven’t found any proof of souls or any sort of chi/energy in bodies (people saying they know it is true because they feel it just isn’t enough for me; does that mean some people don’t have souls because they don’t feel them inside?) I don’t really believe they are really feeding off of anything real. So all that is left is something that can be tested and examined. I’d start going to a doctor to figure out, especially if migraines, cramps, and exhaustion is involved. Also, there are ways to try and correct your inner clock (it depends on what is exactly wrong, of course, but in most cases...), I should know, I’ve got a screwed up one myself. To me, saying you are a vampire is sort of like taking the easy way out instead of trying to figure out exactly what is wrong and how to treat it properly (maybe get rid of it forever so blood isn’t ever needed again).

Now that I’ve said too much I’ll go and erase it all by stating that I’m all for freedom to do what you want with your body (as long as it doesn’t touch me, of course). As long as everyone is a consenting adult, there probably isn’t a problem. I just worry about the people who take it too far, because there are always some who do, and maybe I worry for the younger kids as well (the ones who get made fun of here).

I know this is real late, and will probably not be read but I just want to comment on how silly all of this is...

First off, I do believe its theoretically possible for something to have existed or exist that the vampire is based on. I am a Christian, so I believe in Satan, Demons, all that crap, and its not a stretch for me to believe in something like this... but you "vampires" are just... silly.

I am a Vampire, supposedly, I’ve even been called one... lets look at some of the reasons I recently read on a website called RealVampire.net.

I can hear everything, everywhere, all the time... which sucks because my brother is a musician... a "rock star." Loud... of course I can also hear people "whisper across the room," which has many nice consequences... Always nice to hear someone say you are cute.

Light does not like my eyeballs. I can’t walk outside when there is alot of sunlight, ground splitting head ache... the computer screen often hurts my eyes.

I have a very very very active imagination, I read somewhere that a "normal" person is one with no imagination, typical teen angst... no one appreciates my "art" or "music." Smearing fecies (sp?) on the wall isnt art kiddo.

And a multitude of others but I am not going to go into that much detail. So I’m obviously a vampire right, I fit in these and others... Well... no.

My hearing is an inherent physical trait, just as is my nearsightedness.

OK folks. Let me say I have been involved with the vampire world for a long time. You can’t convince people who believe they are real that they are not real, not can you convince people who think they not real that they are. People who claim to be vampires truely believe they are and what can anyone say about that.

What I can say is that vampires and psychic vampires make for great fiction. No matter what I believe, I love the stories.
