Hits you might have missed

There’s no lack of music coverage every week on the pages of Tiger Weekly. However, as much as we strive to plug shows before they occur, there’s no way possible to write about every one, and some surprisingly amazing performances go down without a mention.

On Tuesday, June 24, The Caterie hosted one of the newer local bands Borderline Cuckoo. The band includes members Vince Mancuso (vocals, guitar), Ryan Miller (bass), Norbert Redmond IV (lead guitar) and Reid Lamy (drums).

The band may be new, having only performed its first show in February 2008, but none of the members are new to the local music scene. All seasoned and experienced musicians, Borderline Cuckoo confabs the best of jam band qualities

“We come from a jam band, funk, rock orientation, and so we blend all of those things together to make our own unique sound,” Miller said about the Borderline Cuckoo brand of rock.

Another local band, Norcio, proves that experience isn’t always necessary for creating a dynamic live performance. The five-piece rock band opened a show for The Highlines and Streamline at Click’s Billiards on Thursday, June 26, and although the members look barely old enough to be in a bar, they set the tone of the evening with a high-energy and well-crafted performance.

Comprised by members Joe Henry (lead vocals, guitar), Adam Garcia (guitar), Josh Quinn (bass), and Connor Ridgeway (drums), Norcio proved to be an interesting surprise. The music is pure rock, and combines obvious influences from the past decade and a half of hits.

The ending of the set was inspired as Henry performed an acoustic song while his bandmates broke down behind him. Truly, this band knows what it takes to be an opening band, and for that reason, they served their purpose masterfully.

Although there were plenty of other amazing shows that occurred last week, the three mentioned here were ones off of my radar, but ended up being some of the best performances of the week. You never know what great music you can discover by randomly attending a live music venue. Get out there and have some fun, and if you discover a great band, let us know about it by e-mailing editor@tigerweekly.com.

  1. I, personally, have great faith in Norcio as do many others. I’m not from Lousianna, but I know the band personally and they’re all great guys.
    Good luck Norcio.

  2. What Crissie said. I’m friends with all of them and always go to their all age shows to support them, since I’m not old enough to get into a bar or anything. Ha. They’ve come a long way and I hope they go even further. Good lucky boys. <3
