I thought I would be editor forever

[Comment Below]

By Stephen Phillips

I would’ve given two weeks’ notice had we published last week.

Most of you who are reading this (freshmen) might not know who I am. In short, for the past couple of years, I’ve served as one of the many minds who make sure this paper goes out every week. I write a little, I edit a lot, and I make an attempt to keep my writers happy, if not a tad psychotic for the sake of entertainment. I hire and dismiss; I reach milestones and screw up royally. I make friends and enemies. I read letters and put out fires. I am the editor-in-chief. For another few hours.

For a while, I didn’t think I could ever not be editor of Tiger Weekly. The job was part of who I am. It was in my blood. I felt like a lifer.

But then, school was out. I got my degree and got married. I got an amazing job offer that I could not refuse. It all happened at once, and as a result, I must give my bittersweet resignation as the editor-in-chief of Tiger Weekly.

Throughout the summer, I’ve trained my replacement and imparted every bit of Tiger Weekly knowledge I have. Former news editor Jon Specht is ready to take the reigns, and I’m ready to take a nap.

It’s been fun, entertaining, educational, stressful and – above all else – meaningful. In fact, I’m so desperate to cling to this love affair that I will continue to write for Tiger Weekly until further notice. My column will remain, and I might even write something else from time to time (I don’t have to hold back anymore, either).

I’ve run out of flowery words, so I’ll keep this brief. Thank you, everyone, for your support in all of Tiger Weekly’s endeavors. We will continue to grow because of readers like you, and I’m confident that the new editor – along with the amazing writers and section editors you all know and love – will make this paper better than it has ever been before.

Welcome back; enjoy the show.

Sincerely,

Stephen Phillips

Soon-to-be-former Editor-in-Chief
