Local blues legend plays at Phil Brady’s
Still reeling from taking home 3rd Place at the International Blues Challenge in February, The Lil’ Ray Neal Band will be playing live on Saturday, August 23 with the always amazing Real Blues Band. A member of one of the most recognizable blues families Baton Rouge has ever known, Lil’ Ray Neal is known as a gentle giant who injects a healthy heaping of soul into his traditional blues sound.
He started in the blues at a very young age and has grown into an ambassador of it, especially in Baton Rouge. Any show where Lil’ Ray Neal and The Real Blues Band is a show you want to try to be at too. Call Phil Brady’s at (225) 927-3786 to find out more about the show.
It takes two to Tango, but it takes $5 to tango like this …
We all have a certain idea of what the Tango is. A lustful dance that blurs the line between romance and sexual temptation, the Tango is as beautiful as it is mysterious. Now, thanks to Tango Lagniappe, there is an alternative. Why would we want an alternative?
Well, maybe you don’t have a partner, maybe you haven’t set foot on a dance floor since MC Hammer left the airwaves or maybe you don’t have a form-fitting Argentine Tango costume befit such a beast of the ballroom. On the fourth Saturday of every month, the Arts Council Building will host TangoCOOL, an alternative tango dance party where no partner, costume or experience is required. Just a $5 bill. The party starts at 10 p.m. Visit TangoLagniappe.com for more info.
Of Moving Colors goes ‘On the Wall’ and bids
Ann Connelly’s farewell
You’ve probably heard about Of Moving Colors. They are one of our area’s premiere contemporary dance companies and have been for the last decade. Now, art inspired by their art will be filling the space at Ann Connelly Fine Art on Saturday, August 23.
The exhibition features photographs taken by David Humphreys and William Kroninger of the dance troupe in all their glory. The exhibition will be on display through August 27, but you’ll want to get there on Saturday to enjoy what’s “On the Table”: free champagne and cakes by Katia Mangham. This will be the final exhibition before Ann Connelly’s leaves its Jefferson Highway location, so don’t miss it! For more info: (225) 927-7677.
