Inspiring new bands on the rise
By Joshua Davidson
Dust off those dancing shoes and leave some water in the dog bowl because Northgate Tavern is where the party’s at on Friday, Aug. 22. The night is sure to be entertaining with a great line-up of up-and-coming bands from around the south including Myka Relocate, Ever Be and City in Fiction.
The opening act slated to start things off around 10 p.m. is Lafayette’s own Myka Relocate, a post hardcore rock band that resembles bands like The Used as well as As Cities Burn. The band is known for their high energy performances that are sure to keep the outside deck at Northgate just a jumpin’.
Fresh off a first place performance on Jammin’ on the Trace (a battle of the bands completion on the Northshore), Ever Be has a bright future ahead them as being one of the next great things out of Baton Rouge. With a sound that is hard to describe with one word or even one band, Ever Be entails a message of hope and inspiration through a new age rock style. Witty lyrics and monstrous guitar solos help make Ever Be an exciting band to watch.
“It’s always good coming to Northgate,” said Larry Rodriguez, drummer for Ever Be. “I’m really excited to play with Myka [Relocate] and City in Fiction.”
Headlining the event comes the Miami based rockers City in Fiction making their lone Louisiana stop before heading back to Florida. The South Beach natives have a bit of an Indie sound that resembles that of Circa Survive and Coheed and Cambria.
While Ever Be and Myka Relocate have played together on several occasions and are no newbies to NGT, this will be the first time for either band to play with City in Fiction.
“I’ve heard great things about City in Fiction,” said Ever Be guitarist Cody Reason. “The show is going to be fun.”
The show is sure to be a crowd pleaser on that oh so dreadful last Friday before the fall semester, so cheer up and come out to enjoy the sounds of a diverse group of rockers. Come early and enjoy the Happy Hour specials from six to nine and a cover charge of only $5.
