Time for Change

Let me get right to the point. Get rid of the Pro Bowl!
This pointless exhibition almost cost the Saints their star quarterback. Drew Brees dislocated his left elbow on the second series of the game and looks to be out at least three months.
But it could have been so much worse. All it takes is one of those huge defensive lineman to roll into the back of Drew’s leg and tear every ligament in his knee. It’s not just Brees either. It could happen to anybody.
What if you were a Chargers fan and LT’s leg gets stuck in the turf and he’s out for over a year?
It’s absolutely ridiculous to play a game like the Pro Bowl after the season is over. The NFL is not like the NBA or Major League Baseball who have their All-Star games in the middle of their respective seasons designed to be a break for the coaches and players. It is definitely time for a change.
Continue to let the fans, players, and coaches vote for their favorite players. When the players are selected, you can even still send them to Hawaii. Do what the NBA does and have skills competitions for the participants. Make a TV special on it. Just do away with the game itself.
And for all of you out there reading this and saying, “But it’s the last time we can watch football for seven months.”
Here is my advice.
Invest in TIVO or some type of DV-R and record your team’s games and watch them over and over again. Another route you could take is to get into another sport.
Are you serious?
Basically, all those people are telling me that they want to watch a worthless football game like the Pro Bowl where players are playing at half speed instead of a great college basketball game or an exciting NBA game.
By the way, that half speed comment does not apply to Redskins’ safety Sean Taylor who blew up that Bills punter on Saturday. Apparently, Taylor is completely insane.
We are about to enter one of the best times of the year to be a sports fan. March Madness is right around the corner and so is the start of the baseball season. Before you know it, there will be the Final Four and the start of the NBA playoffs.
Let football go people. It’ll be back. I promise.
Wouldn’t you rather Brees be back trying to lead the Saints back to the NFC Championship Game next season than recovering from an injury sustained in a meaningless game?
