Feathering your entrepreneurial nest
By Kathleen Davis
Are you interested in starting your own business, but don’t know what to do?
If you are female, you are in luck! A program for business women or women who are interested in starting a business is being held Oct. 13 at the Louisiana Emerging Technology Building. InRegister Magazine, the LSU Stephenson Entrepreneurship and the Baton Rouge chapter of Ladies Who Launch will put on the event.
Ladies Who Launch is a group for women entrepreneurs. This is an all-day event that will feature many speakers.
The program, entitled Feathering Your Entrepreneurial Nest, will include breakfast, lunch and a series of lectures. The speakers range from interior designers to company presidents to authors. The lectures will include talks by Holly Clegg, author and publisher; Carol Carter of the LSU Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute; and many others.
Many interests will be covered. The press release states any woman who attends will “leave with an arsenal of tools to jump-start your business idea, the power of female community and last but least goodie bags to appeal to both sides of your brain.”
It will teach women how to start, run and make a successful business. Ladies Who Launch encourages LSU students to attend. If there is a young woman who is about to graduate and doesn’t want a traditional job and wants the freedom of working for themselves, this is a great opportunity to learn what to do.
All of the lecturers will focus on how to make any business idea a reality. This will also be the premiere for the Ladies Who Launch of Baton Rouge.
This organization promotes a new way for doing business for women. According to the Ladies Who Launch Web site, the group provides connections and advice for women who either want to start or have already started a business.
They have local meetings, weekly emails and they sponsor programs, like the one on Oct. 13 at LSU, around the country. The weekly meetings, called Incubators, give women a chance to meet with other women who also want to start a business.
All of the women, who are a variety of ages, get together and all work on each other’s ideas. Anyone who attends the Oct.13 program will have the chance to sign up for an Incubator.
Once you become a member of Ladies Who Launch and join an Incubator group you can be exposed to many perks. Not only do you meet weekly with people who care about your project and want to help you, but you will also have access to people who have been in your situation and can help.
Ladies Who Launch will help with Web sites, logos, profession photos and ads for you business. Also, it is a great place for networking.
The program only costs $75. Remember it includes breakfast and lunch! It is on Oct. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Louisiana Emerging Technology building. You can register online at www.inregister.com, at https://www.blacktie-louisiana.com/online_sales/rsvp_ticket_purchase.cfm?rsvpid=59.
