The Weekly Roto
“The Weekly Roto” doesn’t believe good sportsmanship has a place in fantasy football. If there ever were a place to unbottle that competitive jackass inside and mock your competitors without shame, this is it! No half-assed conciliatory pats on the back here, this place is ruthless!
We here at “the roto” encourage you to talk trash and accumulate haters because it’s in your best interest! Football history is littered with teams that had great players but never won the big one. Look at all your NFL dynasties of past and present and what did they do better than everyone else? They made you hate them! This logic is infallible. If you want to win the big one, you know what you have to do.
Tip of the Week: Lineup Savvy = Staying Informed
Your central goal as a fantasy manager is to unite a keen managerial touch with smart decision making, and critical to that success is staying well informed. Every week there are non-skill player injuries that could pay huge dividends or precipitate titanic flops in your lineup. Is your fantasy back missing key starters along the offensive line? Is your player’s matchup missing key defensive contributors? Are sloppy weather conditions going to slow X player’s production? Is the player’s team likely to fall behind early and abandon the run? What statistical streaks are in play?
Pay attention, because relevant information goes well beyond defensive statistics and your player’s health. If nothing else, read the “expert” columns online to gather advice.
Matchup Primer
Matchups to Exploit:
Redskins Offense vs. STL –
Welcome back from the bye week St. Louis; how fantasy players have missed you! Jason Campbell and company should have a field day against a Rams defense that is giving up an astounding 36.8 points per contest.
Darren McFadden vs. NO –
McFadden should benefit greatly from the week of rest and will be given every opportunity to exploit a Saints defense that is allowing 5.2 yards per rushing attempt.
Le’Ron McClain vs. IND –
Bob Sanders is injured and the Colts run defense has historically been a pathetic mess without his services. McClain is essentially a carbon copy of LenDale White and I would like both of their chances in a matchup against Indy right now.
Matchups to Avoid:
Joseph Addai vs. BAL –
There are perhaps 2-3 runners that constitute a start against this defense right now and Addai is simply not one of them.
Michael Turner vs. CHI –
So far this year, Turner’s weekly line has trended with the difficulty of his defensive matchup. Advantage: Chicago
Calvin Johnson vs. MIN –
My concern for Johnson centers less upon his matchup and more in line with who will actually be throwing him the ball come Sunday. Drew Stanton, the Lions’ 3rd string quarterback, could be looking at his 1st NFL start if Jon Kitna is not able to make it back for Sunday.
Waiver Wire Pickups
Muhsin Muhammed, WR –
Half the battle of fantasy production is based upon opportunity and through 5 games so far, Muhammed is averaging a robust 8.4 targets per game and is clearly a Jake Delhomme favorite.
JaMarcus Russell, QB –
Very quietly, JaMarcus entered his week 5 bye as the #14 ranked quarterback in fantasy football according to points scored. We’re not so hot on the idea of starting J-Marc just yet, but the schedule ahead is actually looking pretty favorable if you are desperate for another option at QB.
