Big Baby suspended for altercation
Former LSU basketball star Glen "Big Baby" Davis was involved in an altercation that left Davis with a broken thumb and an indefinite suspension. Davis reportedly broke his thumb after exchanging blows with childhood friend Shawn Bridgewater, who police say was driving Davis and his fiancée while impaired at the time of the scuffle. The injury required surgery and Davis is expected to miss six to eight weeks of action. Although Davis contends that he was defending himself, he was also suspended by the Celtics because of a provision in his contract which prohibits fighting. (The Boston Herald)

Shaq vs... crime
Shaquille O'Neal has already laid down the law in Arizona, Florida and Virginia. So look out, Ohio. Deputy sheriff Shaq may be headed your way. A spokesman for the Cuyahoga County sheriff's office said that the former Tiger has applied to be a special deputy. The application has been forwarded to a state agency which has the final say on whether to deputize Shaq. If approved, Shaq will need to complete 36 hours of police training before taking the Ohio police exam. And if all goes well for "The Diesel," he will be able to pack heat and make arrests, but won't receive a salary. (Associated Press)

Kansas is preseason favorite
The Kansas Jayhawks' men's basketball team claimed the No.1 ranking in the preseason USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches' Poll. Kansas ran away to the top spot, receiving 27 of 31 first-place votes. Voters liked the fact that the Jayhawks return their top nine scorers, including big-time players such as Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich. The team also added Xavier Henry, one of the most highly touted recruits in this year's freshmen class. Four perennial powerhouses- Michigan State, Texas, North Carolina and Kentucky- rounded out the top five. (USA TODAY)

Agassi admits drug use
All-time tennis great Andre Agassi has admitted to using crystal meth. According to an excerpt from Agassi's upcoming biography, Agassi says he used the drug in 1997 and failed a drug test soon afterward. To cover up his mistake, Agassi says he lied about the test results when he sent a letter to the ATP tour explaining that he accidently drank a can of soda that was spiked with the drug. Agassi also said that the ATP accepted his bogus explanation and dismissed the case. (Associated Press)

Sanchez makes amends
Mark Sanchez wasn't very sneaky. The New York Jets quarterback was caught attempting to eat a hotdog during the Jets' 38-0 victory over the lowly Oakland Raiders. Sanchez said that he hadn't eaten much before the game because he didn't feel well, so he took it upon himself to have a midgame snack. Sanchez was criticized by the media after the incident was caught on tape. To make up for the mistake, Sanchez donated 500 hotdogs, 500 hamburgers, buns and rolls to the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, N.J. (Associated Press)
