The All-LSU Team since 2000
By Chase Trichell
LSU has experienced unprecedented success since Nick Saban's first season, 2000. Les Miles has continued the tradition since 2005 and both coaches have reared some incredible talent. Nine games through the 2009 season, LSU's record is 97-29 since the 2000 season. Let's take a look at some of the players who have contributed to the Tigers' success. The All-LSU team since 2000:
DEFENSE
DE Marcus Spears: Spears is perhaps the best defensive end in LSU history and recorded 49 tackles in 2003 as LSU won its first National Championship since 1958. Spears, who was a first team All-SEC selection in 2003, again compiled 49 tackles in 2004 en route to earning first team All-American honors.
DT Glenn Dorsey: Dorsey is the most decorated player in Tiger history: two-time first team All-SEC selection, two-time first team All-American selection, won the Lombardi award, Outland Trophy, Bronko Nagurski award and the Lott trophy. Dorsey was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in LSU's 2007 National Championship season.
DE Marquise Hill: Hill recorded 108 tackles and 10 sacks in three seasons at LSU. In 2003, Hill was instrumental in LSU's first National Championship in 45 years. After winning Super Bowl XXXIX with the New England Patriots, Hill suffered a tragic death in May of 2007.
LB Bradie James: James is undoubtedly the best LSU linebacker in decades. James is one of only two Tiger linebackers (Al Richardson) to record more than 400 career tackles and is the only Tiger to have more than 150 tackles in a season, as he compiled 154 in 2002. James was a back-to-back first team All-SEC selection and was the first All-American linebacker since Michael Brooks in 1985.
LB Lionel Turner: Turner recorded 75 tackles in LSU's 2003 National Championship season and executed perhaps the most clinching play as he sacked OU quarterback Jason White as the Sooners were penetrating in Tiger territory late in a 21-14 game.
S LaRon Landry: Landry is probably the best safety in LSU history and led the team in tackles (80) as a true freshman during LSU's 2003 National Title run. He finished his career with a second team All-SEC selection, two-time first team All-SEC selection, first team All-American selection, 315 tackles and 12 interceptions.
S Craig Steltz: Steltz recorded 184 career tackles including 101 his senior season, which was the 2007 National Championship season. Steltz was named a first team All-American in 2007 and was also a Jim Thorpe award finalist.
CB Corey Webster: Webster's 16 interceptions rank him second in LSU history and he was named to the first team All-SEC and All-American teams in 2003 and 2004. Webster was also a Jim Thorpe award semifinalist twice.
CB Patrick Peterson: Peterson recorded 41 tackles and one interception as a true freshman in 2008 despite only starting four games. Entering the 2009 season, Peterson was considered one of the best cornerbacks in America. Though his career is far from over, Peterson is the other starting cornerback on the All-LSU team since 2000.
OFFENSE
QB JaMarcus Russell: Russell was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft after passing for 3,129 yards, 28 touchdowns and 8 interceptions his junior year. JaMarcus was a first team All-SEC selection as well as an All-American honorable mention.
RB Joseph Addai: Addai was a member of the 2001 SEC Championship team, the 2003 National Championship team and the Katrina-plagued 11-2 team which won the 2005 Peach Bowl. Addai completed his career at LSU with 2,577 rushing yards, which ranks fifth on LSU's all time list.
RB Charles Scott: Scott acquired over 400 yards during the Tigers' 2007 National Championship season before rushing for 1,174 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2008.
WR Josh Reed: Reed holds the SEC receiving record in a game (293) and season (1,740). Reed finished his career at LSU with 3,001 receiving yards and is the only player in LSU history to win the Biletnikoff award.
WR Dwayne Bowe: Bowe was a member of the 2003 National Championship team as a freshman and also experienced bowl victories in the 2005 Peach Bowl and the 2006 Sugar Bowl. Bowe ranks No. 1 on LSU's touchdown receptions list with 26.
FB Jacob Hester: Hester rushed, passed and received offensively and recorded tackles on special teams. Hester's most productive season was in 2007 as the team captain rushed for 1,103 yards and 12 touchdowns en route to a National Championship.
TE Richard Dickson: Dickson has been a key player in LSU's consecutive bowl victories from 2006-2008, including the 2007 National Championship. The senior tight end could possibly break every school tight end receiving record before the 2009 season concludes.
