Step back in time with the Louisiana Renaissance Festival
By Emily Carden
Spend your weekend basking in historical realms while simultaneously enjoying fun-filled entertainment at the Louisiana Renaissance Festival. Located in Hammond, the event covers ten acres of time-transformed land suited to fit any individual ready for a good time in the days of the rebirth.
The Renaissance atmosphere offers events of realistic measures and time of leisure. While feasting on the social aspects of the Renaissance with trimmings of turkey legs, roasted pecans and chocolate-dipped fruit; check out the forty stage shows of comedy, jousting, juggling, magic, fire eating and more.
At the joust demonstration, you can watch two individuals adorned in armor on horseback battle for the acclaimed title of victory while cheering for your favorite one.
Enjoy a break with a nice cup of coffee or various spirits located around the fair grounds. Wine tasting events begin at 1 p.m. daily and are $40 per person. Food, entertainment and a souvenir champagne flute are included with the wine tasting ticket purchase. On Dec. 5 and 6, enjoy Pacific Rum Wines from Australia and New Zealand or "Best of the Season" wines from December 12-13. Get your tickets early, as they will sell out quickly.
Individuals in Renaissance attire will grace the paths of Albright during the fair hours. Don't be afraid to dress up yourself - in fact, it is greatly desired. Take a walk around the lake of Albright and be fascinated with the work of various artists during the celebration.
Glassblowing, candle making, woodworking, handcrafted jewelry and man-powered rides are placed around the mesmerizing ten acres of the event for all to enjoy. Also, stop by souvenir entities to gather those unique gifts for the special ones on your list this holiday season.
"[The goal of the Louisiana Renaissance Festival] is to provide quality entertainment for the Baton Rouge area," stated Rick Hight of the Louisiana Renaissance Festival.
The Louisiana Renaissance Festival remains open the weekends of Dec.5-13. The festivities are held, rain or shine, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the festival.
No matter your age, the Louisiana Renaissance Festival offers enjoyment for all ages. A unique experience rife with never-ending historical accounts of the Renaissance time period will provide memories to last for a lifetime. Remember to look for Queen Elizabeth as you spend time reminiscing of days of old. However, respect is much desired with a curtsey or bow to grace her presence. "God Save the Queen!"
